Why We Don’t Need A Thing

The Word

The Lord is my Shepherd,

I shall not want (NASB)

I lack nothing (NIV)

I don’t need a thing (MSG).

Talk it Out

The Old English word scēaphierde is comprised of two words, which, when translated, are: sheep and herdsman. Not only does our Lord care for us, he directs us, and because of his provision and guidance, we do not want.

A quick examination of three translations of Psalm 23:1 leads me to the coolest truth in this simple yet confident verse: he is why we shall not want, he is why we do not lack, he is why we don’t need a thing.

Walk it Out

How has God provided for you?

How has he been exactly what you need right now?
