People and relationships.

Stories, songs, and movements.

Inventions and progress.

Doubt, worry, and fear.

Perhaps everything can trace its existence back to a spark.

Sparks make up the fire, and the fire emits sparks that fade in the draft. Or burn whatever they touch. When tall grass catches them, new fire blazes.

Sparks of inspiration feel like that. Quick-dying, fast-burning, or just enough to transform everything. For better or worse.

Managed well, our best sparks can ignite slow-burning fires that keep the cold away at least one more night.

And though stoking a fire in the middle of the night is not as thrilling as getting it started, it’s worth tending to.
